What Abry Partners buys
Abry Partners is a Boston private equity firm, founded in 1989, that has invested more than $90 billion across North America and Europe. Its buyout funds take control of profitable service and information companies in managed IT and data centers, communications, insurance and financial services, healthcare IT and services, government services, outsourced professional services, and business and facility services. It looks for recurring revenue, high barriers to entry and strong free cash flow. The $2.1 billion flagship fund, ABRY Partners IX, invests $60 million to $200 million per deal, and the $605 million ABRY Heritage Partners II invests $20 million to $60 million in lower middle market companies.
Heritage is the likelier buyer for a founder-owned business. Its recent deals include KaufmanIT, a Southern California managed IT provider, a Canadian insurance broker and a UK accounting firm, and Abry's mid-2026 update reported a new commercial landscaping investment. Abry also runs minority preferred equity and credit funds, which this profile does not cover. Smaller companies can join its platforms as add-ons, as DFS Fire Systems did with Better Protection.

Greymont’s take
How Abry Partners fits a seller
Abry suits owners of profitable, recurring-revenue service businesses, above all managed IT providers, insurance brokers and accounting or other professional services firms, that can support an equity check of $20 million or more. Its June 2026 KaufmanIT deal is the clearest example: a founder-led MSP that took Abry's money to widen its cybersecurity and cloud services and grow across the managed services market. Abry grows its platforms by buying smaller firms, as Better Protection did with DFS Fire Systems, whose founder stayed on in leadership.
Owners should ask which Abry fund would invest, because the Heritage and Flagship funds buy control while the separate Senior Equity fund buys minority preferred stock on different terms. Recent exits came after roughly three to seven years and went to both strategic buyers and other investors, so an owner rolling equity should ask about the expected hold period and likely next owner.
Questions owners ask
How large an investment does Abry make?
Its about page gives a range of $20 million to $200 million. The Heritage fund targets $20 million to $60 million in lower middle market companies, and the Flagship fund targets $60 million to $200 million, with room to go larger.
Does Abry buy managed IT service providers?
Yes. Data centers and managed IT services is one of its named sectors. In June 2026 it invested in KaufmanIT, an Irvine, California MSP, and its current holdings include NexusTek, CloudWave and Recovery Point.
Does Abry invest outside the United States?
Yes. It invests across North America and Europe from offices in Boston, Charlotte and London. Recent buyout deals include AA Ireland, Oracle RMS in Ontario and Burgess Hodgson in the United Kingdom.
Will Abry take a minority stake?
Its buyout funds usually take control. A separate Senior Equity fund makes minority investments of $30 million to $125 million, usually as preferred stock with flexible terms, for owners who want capital without selling control.
