What Clearhaven Partners buys
Clearhaven Partners is a Boston private equity firm, started in 2019, that invests only in enterprise and B2B software. It picks deals by theme and sorts its interests into four areas: application software, infrastructure software, financial technology, and data and analytics. Today it owns nine companies, including video streaming and transport software (Wowza, Zixi, SundaySky), customer engagement software (Engageware), nonprofit data software (Omatic) and a global payouts platform (PayQuicker).
The firm targets lower middle market software companies with roughly $20 million to $100 million of revenue, and its home page points to about $20 million or more of recurring revenue. It closed its second fund at more than $580 million in December 2023 and reports more than $1 billion under management. Clearhaven usually invests alongside the existing leadership team, who often put their own money into the deal, and then backs product work and add-on acquisitions. A software company below that size is more likely to meet Clearhaven as an add-on, as AVA Intellect did when Wowza bought it in 2025.

Greymont’s take
How Clearhaven Partners fits a seller
Clearhaven suits founders and management teams of established B2B software companies that already have meaningful recurring revenue, roughly $20 million or more, and want an investor that does nothing but software. A sale here usually keeps the leadership team in place and invested: in the Zixi and PayQuicker deals, the CEO and senior managers bought into the company alongside the firm. After closing, expect hands-on work on strategy, talent, sales and product, plus add-on acquisitions such as Wowza's purchase of AVA Intellect.
The firm is selective, with about 15 closed investments since 2019, so a strong fit with one of its themes matters. Owners should ask whether Clearhaven is buying a majority or a partial stake, since recent announcements do not say, and how long it expects to hold the company given that its second fund closed in late 2023.
Questions owners ask
What kinds of companies does Clearhaven Partners invest in?
Only enterprise and B2B software and technology companies. It groups its interests into application software, infrastructure software, financial technology, and data and analytics, and its current holdings range from video streaming software to a global payouts platform.
How large does a company need to be for Clearhaven?
Its December 2023 Fund II announcement says it targets software companies with roughly $20 million to $100 million of revenue, and its home page points to about $20 million or more of recurring revenue.
Does management stay and invest after Clearhaven buys in?
Usually, yes. In both the June 2024 Zixi deal and the August 2026 PayQuicker deal, the company's leadership team invested alongside Clearhaven, and the existing CEO stayed in place at PayQuicker.
Do Clearhaven's companies make add-on acquisitions?
Yes. Wowza bought AVA Intellect, an AI agent startup, in June 2025, and PhotoShelter bought UK software maker Third Light in 2022 with Clearhaven's backing.
