What Accel-KKR buys

Accel-KKR is a Menlo Park, California firm that invests only in software and tech-enabled services companies. Since its start in 2000 it has made more than 500 investments and gathered about $24 billion of cumulative capital commitments. Its stated target is founder-owned or closely held private companies with revenue up to and above $200 million, and it uses buyouts, minority growth investments, corporate carve-outs, take-privates, credit and secondary deals. Its holdings span North America, Europe, Asia Pacific and Latin America.

Each kind of deal has its own fund family. The seventh flagship buyout fund closed at $4.4 billion in March 2023, next to a $920 million Emerging Buyout fund aimed at smaller software companies. Growth Capital funds take minority stakes, and Accel-KKR Credit Partners lends to software businesses. A smaller software founder is most likely to meet the firm through the Emerging Buyout strategy, a growth investment, or a sale to one of its platforms, which keep buying companies such as Trustpair for Basware and Passenger Technology Group for Masabi.

Greymont’s take

How Accel-KKR fits a seller

Accel-KKR suits founders of business software companies who want a buyer that knows software well and can offer more than one structure. An owner who wants to keep control can take a minority growth investment, as Exxat did in January 2026, while one who is ready to sell can choose a majority deal like Whip Around or Nutrislice. Many recent deals were in the UK, Norway and Australia, so the firm is used to cross-border processes. Owners of IT services, managed services or other non-software businesses are a weaker fit.

Accel-KKR often sells to other investors and sometimes keeps a minority stake after a sale, as it did with Smart Communications and Blue Mountain. An owner should ask which fund would make the investment, how long that fund usually holds a company, and what role the founder would keep after closing.

Questions owners ask

What size companies does Accel-KKR invest in?

Its stated criteria cover software and tech-enabled services companies with revenue up to and above $200 million. It also runs an Emerging Buyout fund for smaller software companies; the second one closed at $920 million in March 2023.

Does Accel-KKR take minority stakes?

Yes. Its Growth Capital funds make minority investments, such as the January 2026 minority growth investment in Exxat, and its credit arm provides growth financing, as it did for MyComplianceOffice in September 2026.

Does Accel-KKR invest outside the United States?

Yes. Recent investments include AccessPay and REG Technologies in the UK, 4human in Norway and Health Metrics in Australia. Besides Menlo Park, the firm has offices in Atlanta, Chicago, New York and London.

Is Accel-KKR part of Accel or KKR?

No. Despite the similar name, Accel-KKR says on its website that it has no ownership or management ties to Accel Partners or to Kohlberg Kravis Roberts.
