What CenterGate Capital buys
CenterGate Capital is an Austin, Texas private equity firm that manages about $750 million and invests in lower middle market companies in business services, manufacturing and consumer products. Its target platform has $5 million to $30 million of EBITDA and does most of its business in the United States or Canada. The firm says it shapes each deal around the owner's goals, so a seller can turn part of their equity into cash while the company stays set up to grow.
Its second fund, CenterGate Capital Partners II, closed in August 2023 with more than $375 million and is aimed at control investments. Recent platforms lean toward makers of specialized products: Spartaco Tool Group's utility and telecom tools, Marena's medical compression garments, Zyloware's eyewear frames and Canadian Dental Labs' dental prosthetics. It also owns Cartridge Technologies, a managed print services contractor to federal agencies. A company under the $5 million floor is most likely to meet CenterGate as an add-on, as Vivid Ink Graphics did when it joined Prisma in 2025.

Greymont’s take
How CenterGate Capital fits a seller
CenterGate suits the owner of a profitable manufacturer, consumer products company or business services firm who wants to take a large share of their value off the table but keep running the company. In its recent deals the existing leader stayed in charge: the CEOs of Spartaco, Marena, JRTech and Canadian Dental Labs all continued to lead, and Zyloware's two co-CEOs stayed on after the 2024 deal. The firm is also at home with Canadian companies and has bought two there since mid-2025.
Because its current fund is built for control investments, an owner should expect to sell a majority stake. Its most recent exit, the 2025 sale of Mid-State Industrial Maintenance, went to ONCAP, another private equity buyer. Good questions to ask are how much equity you would keep, and which add-on acquisitions CenterGate would want to make with your company.
