What Bain Capital Double Impact buys
Bain Capital Double Impact is the impact investing strategy of Bain Capital. It was set up in 2015, its team works from Boston, and it managed about $2.7 billion as of June 2026. It buys mission-driven companies that can show measurable social or environmental results while earning a market return, in three areas: health and wellness (urgent care, hospice, home infusion and pediatric dentistry), education and workforce development (an online college, K-12 software and classroom design) and climate and sustainability (water treatment, soil and crop products, and sustainable consumer brands).
Double Impact aims for control positions, putting in $50 million to more than $200 million of equity per company, mostly in North American middle market businesses. It has made 26 investments since launch and does not publish revenue or EBITDA ranges. Recent deals include Legacy Hospice, which closed in November 2025, American College of Education in January 2026, and an agreement in September 2026 to buy SOLitude Lake Management from Rentokil for $230 million.

Greymont’s take
How Bain Capital Double Impact fits a seller
Double Impact suits owners of established, profitable businesses with a social or environmental purpose, such as clinics, hospice and home care providers, schools and education software, or environmental and sustainable products companies, who want a buyer that will measure and report the company's impact as well as grow it. Its smallest equity check is about $50 million, so the business usually needs real scale. It works hands-on: after the Legacy Hospice deal it invested in sales, compliance and quality functions and set impact targets with management, and at BW Fusion it started the company's first broad employee equity plan.
Owners should ask which impact measures will be tracked and how they tie to the business plan, and how long the fund expects to hold the company. Double Impact counts nine exits since 2015, including TeachTown, which it sold to L Squared Capital Partners in 2024.
Questions owners ask
How large an investment does Bain Capital Double Impact make?
Its approach page says it focuses on equity investments of $50 million to more than $200 million and looks for control positions in middle market companies, working alongside the existing management team.
What makes a company a fit for Double Impact?
A proven business whose growth also widens access to care, improves education and economic mobility, or helps the environment. Double Impact sets company-specific impact targets with management and assesses deals against frameworks such as the UN Sustainable Development Goals and SASB standards.
Is Double Impact separate from Bain Capital's main buyout funds?
