What Summit Partners buys

Summit Partners is a Boston growth equity firm founded in 1984. It manages more than $44 billion and has backed over 550 companies. It looks for profitable, fast-growing companies that already lead their niche, in three areas: technology (software, cybersecurity, fintech, IT infrastructure and semiconductors), healthcare and life sciences (care delivery, practice management, clinical research and health technology), and what it calls growth products and services, which covers financial, business, information, consumer and industrial services. It invests mainly in North America and Europe.

Summit typically puts in $10 million to $500 million, as either a minority or a majority owner, and helps companies grow on their own or through acquisitions. Recent rounds have been large, such as $200 million for Quantifind and a round of more than $1 billion for Keyfactor, but Summit also backs services firms like UHY, a Michigan accounting firm that took its first outside capital from Summit in December 2024. Smaller owners are most likely to meet Summit through an add-on sale to a platform such as CollisionRight or Fortify Companies.

Greymont’s take

How Summit Partners fits a seller

Summit fits founders of profitable, growing companies who want capital and help but may not want to sell the whole business. Many of its deals are minority growth rounds, such as Fundraise Up in January 2025. When it does buy a majority, founders often reinvest: CollisionRight's founder kept a significant stake when Summit bought control in January 2024. Summit also builds acquisition platforms, so owners of collision shops, restoration companies or accounting firms may hear from a Summit-backed buyer such as CollisionRight, Fortify or UHY.

Summit usually exits by selling to a larger company: Dr. Squatch went to Unilever, ELATEC to Allegion and Vestmark to Envestnet. Owners should ask whether Summit wants a minority or a majority stake, and what exit it expects, since a later sale to a strategic buyer is the common outcome.

Questions owners ask

How much does Summit Partners invest?

Its FAQ says it typically invests between $10 million and $500 million or more. Recent rounds ranged from $40 million for Cognitive Credit in October 2026 to more than $1 billion for Keyfactor in July 2026.

Does Summit Partners invest in collision repair or other local services businesses?

Yes. In January 2024 it bought a majority of CollisionRight, an Ohio consolidator that had bought 89 collision repair shops in three and a half years and plans more in the Central US and Mid-Atlantic. It also backs Fortify Companies, which bought Rytech Restoration in December 2025.

Does Summit take minority or majority stakes?

Both. Its FAQ says it can take either position, and recent examples include a minority growth investment in Fundraise Up in January 2025 and a majority investment in CollisionRight in January 2024.

Where does Summit Partners invest?

Mainly in North America and Europe. Its US teams sit in Boston, New York and Menlo Park, and its European teams in London and Luxembourg. Its flagship US fund closed at $9.5 billion in October 2024, and its fourth Europe fund closed at EUR 1.4 billion in February 2023.
