What PSP Capital buys

PSP Capital is the buyout team of PSP Partners, the Chicago investment firm Penny Pritzker founded in 2011 after decades in her family's businesses. It buys established, market-leading companies in two areas. The first is advanced industrials: specialty building products, water management, power products, specialty distribution, industrial services and automation. The second is business and technology services: digital marketing, IT services and digital transformation, professional advisory, transportation and logistics, and facility services and disaster restoration. It does management buyouts, recapitalizations and consolidations, helps closely held companies plan succession, and also makes minority investments and corporate carve-outs.

Its typical buyout check is $100 million to $300 million, and it can go larger with partners, so new platforms sit well above the lower middle market. Its money comes from a single family source, which it says lets it be patient and flexible and keep funding acquisitions. Flagship holdings are Ntiva, E.B. Bradley Co. and DEPT, plus StormTrap until its pending sale. A smaller company is most likely to meet PSP as an add-on, for example a managed IT provider joining Ntiva.

Greymont’s take

How PSP Capital fits a seller

PSP Capital suits owners of larger, established companies who want a patient, family-backed partner rather than a fund working to a fixed deadline. Its new platform deals are well above lower middle market size, so most owners of smaller businesses will meet PSP through one of its flagship companies. The clearest route is Ntiva, which keeps buying managed IT providers: in September 2025 it bought Tampa-based Site Tech Services and kept its president in charge of that business.

PSP also partners with founders directly. Ntiva's founder was still leading the company two years after PSP invested, and StormTrap's founding family kept a board seat after the 2022 purchase. Owners should ask how long PSP expects to hold, since it agreed to sell StormTrap about four and a half years after buying it, and whether any equity they roll over would sit in the platform or in their own business.

Questions owners ask

How big are PSP Capital's investments?

Its buyout criteria list a typical investment of $100 million to $300 million, with the ability to go larger alongside like-minded partners and more capital available for organic growth and acquisitions.

Does PSP Capital buy IT services companies?

Yes. Digital transformation and IT services is one of its stated focus areas, and it owns Ntiva, a national managed IT provider it backed in January 2022. Ntiva added Site Tech Services in September 2025.

Does PSP Capital work with family-owned businesses?

Yes. Its criteria include helping closely held businesses plan succession. When it bought StormTrap in April 2022, it partnered with management and the founding family, and a family member stayed on the board.
