What Pritzker Private Capital buys
Pritzker Private Capital, which now calls itself PPC, is a Chicago family investment firm with a second office in Los Angeles. It has invested in middle-market companies since 2002, and in August 2025 it closed PPC IV at $3.4 billion, above its $3.0 billion target. It has backed 31 platforms and completed more than 110 add-ons. It buys North American companies in two areas: manufactured products, such as packaging, food, specialty chemicals and engineered components, and services, such as route-based and technician-led work, specialty waste and water, distribution, logistics and outsourced business services.
PPC wants more than $15 million of EBITDA, enterprise values of about $200 million to $2 billion, and equity checks of $100 million to $400 million. It mostly takes majority stakes but will make large minority investments, and it prefers family and founder-owned companies. Because most of its capital comes from families, it can hold companies longer than a typical fund. A smaller company is far more likely to meet PPC as an add-on, for example to Valicor in wastewater treatment or C.H. Guenther in food.

Greymont’s take
How Pritzker Private Capital fits a seller
PPC is built for family and founder-owned companies that are already large, with EBITDA above $15 million, and whose owners care about who holds the business next. The firm says owners can keep running the company and keep a meaningful stake if they want to, and recent deals follow that pattern: the Juve family invested alongside PPC in Americhem and its chairman stayed on the board, and Buckman's family and management also kept a stake. About 17% of PPC IV comes from the PPC team and related entities, and the firm says it is not tied to short holding periods.
For most smaller owners, the realistic route is a sale to a PPC company. Valicor, for example, bought waste and wastewater businesses in Kentucky, West Virginia and Pennsylvania within a year. An owner should ask how PPC decides when to sell, and how its management incentive plans pay out during a long hold.
Questions owners ask
Does PPC buy waste and environmental services companies?
Yes. Specialty waste and water is one of the service areas it lists. Its platform Valicor treats non-hazardous industrial wastewater and has made three add-ons since April 2025, reaching 32 facilities in 16 states.
What size company does PPC look for?
Its criteria call for more than $15 million of EBITDA and enterprise values generally between $200 million and $2 billion, with equity checks of $100 million to $400 million and up to $750 million including co-investment.
Can the owner stay involved after PPC invests?
Yes. PPC says it encourages owners to stay involved and keep a meaningful ownership stake if they choose. In the 2025 Americhem deal, the Juve family invested alongside PPC and the chairman stayed on the board.
How long does PPC hold its companies?
PPC uses long-duration capital, mostly from families, and says it is not bound by artificial limits on investment periods. It offers management incentive plans with a path to liquidity because it tends to hold companies for a long time.
