What Primus Capital buys

Primus Capital is a growth-focused private equity firm that started in 1983 and has offices in Atlanta and the Cleveland area. It backs companies in three areas: healthcare, software and technology, and tech-enabled services. Within those it names healthcare IT, healthcare services, financial technology, marketing and education technology, human capital software, infrastructure technology, security and vertical software. It invests in the United States and Canada, puts in $20 million to $100 million per deal, and looks at companies valued at up to about $250 million. It is investing from its $800 million ninth fund and says it has backed more than 130 companies.

Primus can buy a business outright, recapitalize it with a control or a minority stake, buy shares from existing holders, or fund a growth plan. Its recent deals have mostly been growth or minority investments, such as RxAnte in January 2026 and Matic in June 2026, and it usually holds for three to seven years. It does not publish revenue or EBITDA minimums, but its check size means a company needs real scale to fit.

Greymont’s take

How Primus Capital fits a seller

Primus suits founders of established healthcare technology, software or tech-enabled service companies who want a well-funded partner but may not want to give up control. Its recent deals follow a pattern: it buys a minority or partial stake, backs the existing management team, and works through a board seat; its site tells managers that they run the company. RxAnte's co-founder and CEO announced the January 2026 deal, and Primus put more money into MDaudit in January 2025 when a second investor came in.

The $20 million minimum check is a high bar, so most smaller owners will only fit if they are growing quickly in one of its niches. Owners should ask whether Primus wants control or a minority stake in their case, and how its usual three to seven year hold fits their own plans. Its recent exits went to strategic buyers FactSet and Harris and to another investor, Bow River Capital.
