What Nexa Equity buys
Nexa Equity is a San Francisco growth equity firm, started in 2021 by former Insight Partners investors, that invests only in software. It looks for vertical software: products built for one industry, used as the system of record, and with a clear payback for the customer. Its target is a founder-led, capital-efficient company with $3 million to $30 million of annual recurring revenue that is growing fast. Its examples of target industries include field services, construction, grocery technology and school athletics, along with other markets where much of the work is still done by hand.
Nexa usually takes a controlling stake but will consider a minority deal, and it writes checks from $15 million to more than $100 million. It keeps a concentrated portfolio of seven to nine companies per fund. Its second fund closed at $390 million in May 2025, and the firm reports about $1.2 billion under management. Nexa buys bolt-on software companies for its platforms, so a smaller software business may also meet it as an add-on.

Greymont’s take
How Nexa Equity fits a seller
Nexa fits founders of software companies built for a single industry who want a hands-on partner and are open to giving up control. It is not a buyer for service businesses or for companies sized on EBITDA. A sale to Nexa usually means a majority investment, followed by new senior hires and often an add-on acquisition. At Leap and Easy Metrics the founder stayed on as CEO, while at Autura the founder moved to the board and Nexa recruited a new leadership team.
Because Nexa keeps only seven to nine companies per fund, each deal gets close attention. A founder should ask early whether Nexa expects them to keep running the company or to hand off day-to-day work. They should also ask how much of their equity they would roll and how Nexa plans to use acquisitions to reach its growth targets.
Questions owners ask
What size software company does Nexa Equity invest in?
Nexa looks for vertical software companies with $3 million to $30 million of annual recurring revenue, strong growth and capital-efficient operations. Its checks range from $15 million to more than $100 million.
Does Nexa take a majority stake?
Usually. Nexa describes itself as control-oriented but says it can do minority deals. Earlier platforms such as Leap and Storewise were majority growth investments, while Facility Grid and Cedar AI were announced as growth investments.
Does the founder stay after Nexa invests?
It depends on the founder. Nexa's company pages say the founders of Leap and Easy Metrics stayed on as CEO, while the Autura founder moved to a board seat and Nexa recruited a new executive team.
Does Nexa buy smaller software companies as add-ons?
Yes. Its companies have added PingCx to Facility Grid in August 2026, Schoolfundr to Hometown in December 2024 and Traxero to Autura in October 2024, and combined ComplianceMate and MeazureUp with Storewise to form Ladle.
