What Marlin Equity Partners buys
Marlin Equity Partners, founded in 2005, is based in the Los Angeles area with a second office in London and invests only in software, technology and tech services companies. It reports nearly $10 billion of capital commitments and more than 270 acquisitions. Most holdings are software for compliance, healthcare, finance, e-commerce, marketing, and learning and HR. A smaller group are services businesses, including AVI-SPL (audio visual and video conferencing installs), Allbridge (TV and network connections for hotels) and Beyond, a UK cloud consultancy. Much of its recent activity is in Europe, and its newest fund, Marlin Heritage Europe III, closed at 1 billion euros in June 2025.
Marlin does not publish revenue or EBITDA limits but says its capital serves the middle and lower middle market, including complicated situations. It makes majority growth investments, take-privates and many add-ons: Learning Pool alone bought WorkRamp, Elucidat, WorkStep and Confirm between October 2025 and May 2026. A smaller software or tech services company is most likely to meet Marlin as an add-on to one of its platforms.

Greymont’s take
How Marlin Equity Partners fits a seller
Marlin suits founders of software and tech-enabled businesses who want a buyer that knows their category and brings an in-house operations team. Most of its recent deals are add-ons merged into an existing platform, so a seller should expect to become part of a larger company, often under the platform's name and leadership. That can be a clean exit for a founder who sells everything; a founder who keeps a stake is betting on Marlin's next sale, and the firm says more than 75% of its exits since inception have gone to strategic buyers.
Owners of IT services firms should note that Marlin's latest services add-ons, TIQQE and tmc3, were in Europe. Ask whether the platform you would join is run from the US, how integration and branding will work, and what role you would keep after closing.
Questions owners ask
What kinds of companies does Marlin Equity Partners buy?
Software and technology businesses, plus some tech services companies. Its current holdings include compliance, healthcare, financial technology, e-commerce, learning and HR software, along with services firms such as AVI-SPL, Allbridge and Beyond.
Does Marlin buy IT services companies?
Yes, though less often than software. Its UK cloud consultancy Beyond, formerly Qodea, added cyber security firm tmc3 in December 2024 and Swedish cloud consultancy TIQQE in September 2025. In the US it owns AVI-SPL and Allbridge.
Who does Marlin usually sell its companies to?
Marlin said in June 2025 that more than 75% of its exits since it was founded have been sales to strategic acquirers. Past exits listed on its site include AdvancedMD to Global Payments and Anexinet to Mill Point Capital.
What is Marlin's newest fund?
Marlin Heritage Europe III closed in June 2025 at its 1 billion euro hard cap, more than 50% larger than its previous Europe fund. Its first investments included Treasury Intelligence Solutions, Radar Healthcare, Napier AI and Didomi.
