What Lindsay Goldberg buys
Lindsay Goldberg is a New York private equity firm, started in 2001, that buys into companies owned by families, founders and their management teams. It has raised about $24 billion since then and counts more than 65 platform companies and over 350 follow-on acquisitions. Its funds target three broad areas: industrials, services and healthcare. Recent platforms are mostly distributors of metals, chemicals and electrical products, and its current holdings also include dental, veterinary and mental health groups and an express car wash chain in the Southwest.
These are big companies. Fund VI closed at $4.9 billion in January 2026, and the firm buys well above the lower middle market. It does not publish revenue or EBITDA ranges. It usually takes a majority stake while the family or founder keeps a real share and often keeps running the business, as the Glick family did at Alro Steel in 2026. A smaller company is most likely to meet Lindsay Goldberg as an add-on to one of its platforms, the way Pride Chemical Solutions joined EMCO.

Greymont’s take
How Lindsay Goldberg fits a seller
Lindsay Goldberg suits the owner of a large family or founder-run company who wants a deep-pocketed partner but does not want to walk away entirely. Its recent deals share a pattern: the firm buys a majority, the family keeps a meaningful stake, and the current leaders keep running things. The Pike family is the long example, with the firm investing twice over 25 years before selling its interest in December 2025.
For most lower middle market owners, the realistic path is a sale to one of its platforms rather than to the firm itself. EMCO's agreement to buy Pride Chemical Solutions, a founder-owned distributor on Long Island, is a recent case. An owner talking to a Lindsay Goldberg platform should ask how much of the price is paid in cash at closing versus rolled into equity, and how long the firm expects to own the platform before its next sale.
Questions owners ask
Does Lindsay Goldberg buy smaller companies?
Not usually as new platforms. Its sixth fund closed at $4.9 billion in January 2026, and it reports investing about $17 billion across 66 platforms, so its own deals are large. Smaller businesses usually join as add-ons, such as Pride Chemical Solutions agreeing to join EMCO in September 2026.
Does the family or founder keep a stake after Lindsay Goldberg invests?
Often, yes. In the August 2026 Alro Steel deal, the Glick family kept a significant ownership interest and the existing leadership team stayed in place. The July 2026 Range Electric Supply investment was also made alongside its founder and management team.
Does Lindsay Goldberg own any car wash or auto service businesses?
Yes. Dash Car Wash, a Denver-based owner, operator and developer of express exterior car washes in the American Southwest, is a current holding. The firm first invested in 2021 and lists five follow-on investments for the company.
Which industries does Lindsay Goldberg focus on?
Fund VI targets industrials, services and healthcare. Current holdings range from metals, chemical and electrical distribution to electronics manufacturing, clinical research, dental and veterinary networks, and mental health treatment centers.
