What Kirtland Capital Partners buys
Kirtland Capital Partners is a private equity firm in Orange Village, Ohio, outside Cleveland. It started in 1977 as a pledge fund and now invests from committed funds, the latest being KCP VI, closed in 2023. It buys control of family and founder-owned companies in three areas: precision machining and engineered products, business services, and branded food and beverage, including pet products. Its fact sheet targets companies with $10 million to $50 million of revenue and $1 million to $6 million of EBITDA in the eastern half of the U.S. and Canada. Its web criteria page lists only the minimums.
Kirtland wants visible growth, healthy margins, a defensible market position and no customer above 30% of sales, or 50% for the top five. It will consider an underperforming company that needs fresh capital, but not a deep turnaround. It also offers to be the control equity investor for independent sponsors. Its five current companies, Actron Engineering, Authentico Foods, Chamber Media, Galati Cheese and PEScience, all say they want add-on acquisitions.

Greymont’s take
How Kirtland Capital Partners fits a seller
Kirtland suits owners of small precision manufacturers, branded food companies and business service firms who want a control buyer that stays involved. Its range of $1 million to $6 million of EBITDA covers many family businesses that larger funds pass over, and it says it invests in leadership, systems, and sales and marketing so a company can grow. Both Galati Cheese, built over 50 years by its founding family, and Authentico Foods chose Kirtland on that basis.
The firm publishes very few deal announcements, so an owner should ask for references from past sellers. Other good questions are what roles the family and managers would keep, how add-on acquisitions would be paid for, and how long Kirtland expects to own the business before selling it.
Questions owners ask
