What Insight Equity buys

Insight Equity is a private equity firm in Southlake, Texas, near Dallas, that has made control investments since 2002. It looks for North American companies with $40 million to $1 billion of revenue and puts in roughly $25 million to $150 million of equity per deal. It concentrates on manufacturing and distribution businesses and names eight target sectors, including industrial and energy services, building materials, food and packaging, aerospace and government, and infrastructure and waste. Many of its deals are complicated: corporate carve-outs, family ownership transitions, restructurings, take-privates and companies that are underperforming.

Its principals have historically been the largest investors in its funds, and it says it usually does not charge its companies management or board fees. Its two newest platforms, IKI Manufacturing and Alwood, were funded as direct deals rather than from a new pooled fund. A smaller company is most likely to meet Insight as an add-on, as Casual Cushion did when it joined Easy Way Products in 2025.

Greymont’s take

How Insight Equity fits a seller

Insight Equity is a better match for larger family companies than for small owner-run firms, since its floor is $40 million of revenue. It is comfortable with situations many buyers avoid, such as thin margins, uneven cash flow, too much debt or a parent company that wants out, and it brings its own operating playbook to fix them. That makes it worth a call for a family manufacturer facing a succession problem or a tough stretch. Founders have kept a role in recent deals: Alwood's founder called Insight a growth partner in 2026, and Casual Cushion's CEO joined Easy Way in a growth role. Owners should ask how much change Insight plans for the management team, since its model centers on operating overhauls, and how long it expects to hold, because some current companies were bought in 2011 and 2014.

Questions owners ask

What size company does Insight Equity buy?

It targets North American companies with $40 million to $1 billion of revenue and invests roughly $25 million to $150 million of equity per deal, according to its home page. It does not publish an EBITDA range.

Does Insight Equity invest in waste or environmental businesses?

It lists infrastructure and waste as a target sector. It still owns Emerald Transformer, which it describes as recycling transformer equipment and handling PCB disposal and oil processing, and in March 2024 it bought Atmos Technologies, which supplies landfill cover materials and leachate treatment equipment.

What kinds of situations does Insight Equity look for?

It looks for corporate carve-outs, family ownership transitions, restructurings and take-privates, and it welcomes companies with weak margins, volatile cash flow, heavy debt or other operating challenges where it can drive operational improvements.
