What HGGC buys
HGGC is a Palo Alto private equity firm, founded in 2007, that manages more than $10 billion. It invests in middle market companies worth up to $1.5 billion in four areas: technology, financial services, business services and consumer. It looks for high-quality businesses with durable revenue and grows them through buy-and-build programs, business transformations and growth plans. Across its history it counts 43 platform investments and more than 650 add-ons. In February 2026 it closed Fund V at about $3.2 billion, above its $2.5 billion target.
HGGC makes both control buyouts and smaller stakes. Fund V's first four platforms were Equity Methods, Sterling Brokers, Inspired and Centralis Group; Sterling serves Canadian employers and Inspired is a UK energy consultancy. Through Aspire Holdings it takes equity stakes in registered investment advisers, most recently Verdence Capital Advisors and Crewe Advisors in 2026. A smaller company is most likely to meet HGGC as an add-on to a platform such as Monotype or Fullscript, or as an adviser joining Aspire.

Greymont’s take
How HGGC fits a seller
HGGC suits owners of established, profitable companies in software, business services, financial services or consumer products who want a partner with a buy-and-build plan. Its platforms are mostly large, so a founder-owned business is more likely to join one as an add-on; the firm counts more than 650 add-ons, such as Extensis joining Monotype in 2024. Wealth management owners have a separate path through Aspire Holdings, which has invested in eight advisers; at Crewe Advisors the managers kept majority ownership. Dental practice owners can look at Dentive, an HGGC-backed support organization where doctors keep equity and clinical control.
An owner should ask whether HGGC would take control or a minority stake, and how long it expects to hold. It stayed in Better Being for eight years before selling in December 2025.
