What H.I.G. Capital buys

H.I.G. Capital is a Miami firm founded in 1993 that reports $75 billion of capital under management across private equity, credit, real estate and infrastructure. This profile covers its U.S. private equity funds, which buy control of middle market companies in business services, technology and IT services, healthcare, industrials, consumer and chemicals. Its criteria page points to companies with up to $1 billion of revenue, and its About page cites enterprise values of $50 million to $1 billion. H.I.G. is willing to take on complexity, such as corporate carve-outs, complex ownership situations or underperforming businesses, and it also makes minority and growth investments.

Smaller companies have two ways in. H.I.G. Capital Partners VII, a $2 billion fund closed in October 2024, makes control investments in U.S. lower middle market companies, and the firm's Small-Cap and Growth fund looks for North American businesses with less than $15 million of EBITDA. Founders can also sell to one of its platforms, as GTR Technologies did when it joined Homewerks in September 2026.

Greymont’s take

How H.I.G. Capital fits a seller

H.I.G. suits owners who want a large, well-funded buyer that can handle many deal shapes. Its approach page says it shapes each deal around the seller, from a full sale to a partial sale where the owner keeps equity and a management role. Recent deals show both: the founder of Rely Home kept a significant stake in November 2025, the CEO of GT Independence stayed on as a major shareholder, and HBK's partners will keep running their firm after H.I.G.'s 2026 growth investment.

H.I.G. also sells often. Since mid 2026 it has sold or agreed to sell ECI, JT Thorpe, Celerion and General Datatech, and three of those went to other private equity firms. An owner who rolls equity should ask which H.I.G. fund would own the company, how long that fund usually holds, and what the owner's role would be after the next sale.

Questions owners ask

Does H.I.G. buy IT services companies?

Yes. Its current U.S. holdings include Pellera Technologies, Quisitive, ThoughtFocus, Concord and Empower AI. It sold managed services provider ECI to Wind Point Partners in August 2026 and agreed to sell General Datatech to Softcat for $1.05 billion in September 2026.

What size company does H.I.G. look for?

Its criteria page targets middle market companies with revenue as high as $1 billion, with the ceiling varying by industry. Smaller businesses fit its $2 billion lower middle market fund closed in 2024, or its Small-Cap and Growth fund, which looks for North American companies with less than $15 million of EBITDA.

Can an owner keep a stake after selling to H.I.G.?

Yes. Its approach page describes partial sales where the owner keeps equity and a management role. When H.I.G. invested in Rely Home in November 2025, the founder kept a significant ownership stake, and GT Independence's CEO remained a significant shareholder after its deal.

Does H.I.G. invest in accounting firms?

Yes. In August 2026 it agreed to a growth investment in HBK, a Top 50 U.S. CPA firm with a wealth management arm, founded in 1949. H.I.G. becomes HBK's first institutional partner, HBK's partners keep leading the firm, and closing is expected in the fourth quarter of 2026.
