What DelCam Capital buys

DelCam Capital is a private equity firm in Hopedale, Massachusetts that buys family owned and founder led manufacturers with $500,000 to $5 million of EBITDA. Steve Trotta founded it in 2019 after more than a decade at Fidelity Investments. Its first deals were small New England shops: a plastics machining company in Bow, New Hampshire bought in November 2020, then a sheet metal fabricator and a plastic injection molder in Massachusetts. Each deal is financed with bank debt and money from its limited partners, who include wealthy individuals, professional athletes and family offices. Its second fund, DelCam Fund II, started in 2023.

The main platform today is Space Age Electronics, a Sterling, Massachusetts maker of fire alarm and life safety products bought in April 2024. Since then DelCam has folded in Gaston Electronics, SprinkGuard and Gemcom. After a purchase it invests in software, equipment, automation and a sales team, and employees share in the gains. A small maker of fire and life safety products, electronics or engineered parts is the clearest fit, often as an add-on to Space Age.

Greymont’s take

How DelCam Capital fits a seller

DelCam suits the owner of a small, profitable manufacturer, often a family business, who cares about keeping the company and its people in place. Its EBITDA floor is $500,000, so even quite small shops are in range. Sellers have stayed involved for a while: PlasTech's founder stayed on as a consultant for more than two years after the 2020 sale, and Space Age's chief operating officer took the top job after the 2024 deal.

Add-ons such as Gaston, SprinkGuard and Gemcom have been fully merged into Space Age rather than run as separate companies, so an owner who wants to keep a brand or a separate team should ask about that early. Other good questions: how the purchase will be financed, how much debt the company will carry, and how the employee ownership plan works.

Questions owners ask

What size company does DelCam Capital buy?

Its home page says it targets family owned and founder led manufacturing businesses with $500,000 to $5 million of EBITDA. Its acquisitions so far have been small, mostly in New England, plus add-ons in Illinois and North Carolina.

Does DelCam buy fire protection companies?

It buys makers of fire and life safety products, not installers or service contractors. Its Space Age Electronics platform has added Gaston Electronics, SprinkGuard and Gemcom, which make control panels, sprinkler head guards, switches and annunciators.

Do employees get ownership when DelCam buys a company?

Yes. When it bought Space Age Electronics in April 2024, DelCam said all of its employees would become owners, and its strategy page says team members share in the carried interest of its funds.
