What Crossplane Capital buys
Crossplane Capital is a Dallas private equity firm, launched in 2018, that buys control of lower middle market industrial companies. It focuses on family or founder-owned businesses and on complex situations such as corporate carve-outs, restructurings and bankruptcies. Targets are based in the United States or Canada with $40 million to $200 million of revenue and $5 million to $20 million of EBITDA, and first platform deals run up to about $150 million. Its target industries are facilities services, construction and infrastructure, equipment rental, building products, business services, automotive, chemicals, food and beverage, and plastics and packaging.
The firm had raised more than $730 million, counting co-investment, by the time its second fund closed above a $325 million target in 2022. It asks selling families to roll over a meaningful stake and says it charges its companies no monitoring fees. Add-ons have no size or location limits, the likely route for a smaller company: Viking Fence seeks Texas dumpster, sanitation and site rental firms, and Mooring USA seeks commercial restoration and duct cleaning firms.

Greymont’s take
How Crossplane Capital fits a seller
Crossplane fits owners of industrial service, rental, distribution or niche manufacturing businesses who want a hands-on operating partner and are willing to keep a real stake. Its team comes from operating, consulting and restructuring jobs, and it will look at companies that are underperforming or in an out-of-favor industry. Its two newest deals were both done with the founders: the Mooring family in 2025 and Bryce Huett at Distributor Wire and Cable in 2024. It has also backed employee ownership, launching a shared ownership program at Hunter Onsite with the nonprofit Ownership Works. Owners of dumpster or portable sanitation businesses in Texas should know that Viking Fence lists both among the add-ons it wants. An owner should ask how big a rollover Crossplane expects and what operating changes it plans for the first year.
Questions owners ask
What size companies does Crossplane Capital buy?
It targets US and Canadian companies with $40 million to $200 million of revenue and $5 million to $20 million of EBITDA, with first platform deals of up to about $150 million. Add-ons have no size limit.
Does Crossplane buy waste or sanitation businesses?
Through Viking Fence, yes. Viking rents sanitation units and dumpsters across Texas, bought the Austin dumpster rental company Hook-N-Haul in 2023, and lists roll-off dumpsters and sanitation rentals among its add-on targets.
Does the owner keep a stake after selling to Crossplane?
Usually. Crossplane says it looks for family owners willing to roll over a significant equity stake, and it does not charge its portfolio companies monitoring fees, which leaves more cash in the business.
