What Weatherford Capital buys
Weatherford Capital is a Tampa private investment firm founded in 2015 by brothers Will, Drew and Sam Weatherford. It runs two strategies. The Flagship strategy backs technology, financial services, and business and consumer services companies in markets shaped by regulation, with a long record in government technology such as OpenGov, PayIt and Vision Government Solutions, plus public safety software and insurance. The Sports Continuum strategy, which began investing in 2023, buys into youth, college and professional sports businesses, from a youth baseball platform to the United Soccer League.
The firm closed its $300 million Fund II in March 2025 and reports $1.3 billion of cumulative capital commitments. It does not publish revenue, EBITDA or check-size criteria. Its portfolio mixes buyouts, growth rounds in venture-backed insurance and software companies, and minority stakes taken next to larger sponsors such as Great Hill Partners, RedBird Capital and Greater Sum Ventures. A founder-owned company is most likely to meet Weatherford in government technology, public safety, insurance distribution or youth sports, often with a co-investor alongside.

Greymont’s take
How Weatherford Capital fits a seller
Weatherford fits owners in regulated or government-facing markets, such as public safety technology, property tax software or insurance distribution, and operators of youth and amateur sports businesses. It brings public sector relationships: co-founder Will Weatherford is a former Speaker of the Florida House. Many of its deals are done next to a larger lead investor, so a seller may end up with another firm in control and Weatherford as a minority partner, as in the 2025 Vision Government Solutions recapitalization led by Great Hill.
Because it publishes no size criteria, owners should ask early how large a check Weatherford can write on its own, whether it would lead the deal or bring in a partner, and which of its two strategies would back the company.
