What Verde Equity Partners buys
Verde Equity Partners is a San Diego private equity firm whose first fund built Verde Property Services, a commercial landscaping roll-up with brands across Southern California, Sacramento and Tucson. In September 2025 it changed course: it now backs experienced operators and sponsors who want to run a roll-up in their own industry. Its first choice is an operator who already owns a business that can serve as the platform, then an executive with an industry track record who has not yet found a company, and then a sponsor with a deal and an operator lined up.
Verde wants at least $2 million of combined EBITDA at the first closing, margins of 8% or more, steady or modestly growing sales and a mostly commercial customer base. It wants US companies, prefers the Western US, and likes recurring revenue, fragmented industries and strategies that will use about $100 million of total capital over a three to four year cycle. A founder-owned company is most likely to meet Verde as the platform for an operator it backs, or as an add-on.

Greymont’s take
How Verde Equity Partners fits a seller
Verde suits two kinds of owner. The first is a commercial landscaping company in California or Arizona that could join Verde Property Services, which has kept sellers' brands and often their leaders: Chula Vista kept its brand and leadership team, and Steven Smith stayed on the executive team. The second is an owner-operator in another fragmented services industry who wants to lead a roll-up with Verde's capital behind them. Because Verde now backs operators rather than picking industries itself, an owner selling into a new strategy should ask who will run the combined company, how much equity is committed, and how lenders such as Mizzen Capital, which financed earlier deals, fit into the structure. Verde plans on three to four year investment cycles, so any equity an owner rolls over would likely be sold within a few years.
Questions owners ask
Does Verde still buy landscaping companies?
Its first fund was built around commercial landscaping, and it closed the English Garden Care deal in August 2025. In September 2025 Verde said its focus is moving to operator-led roll-ups in other industries, while Verde Property Services remains its landscaping platform.
What size business does Verde need?
At least $2 million of combined EBITDA at the first closing, with margins of at least 8%, mostly commercial customers and steady or modest growth. It likes strategies that will use about $100 million of total capital.
Who does Verde partner with?
In order of preference: operators who already own a business that can be the roll-up platform, executives with an industry track record looking for a company to buy, and financial sponsors with a deal and an operator identified.
