What Topspin Consumer Partners buys

Topspin Consumer Partners is a private equity firm in Mamaroneck, New York, that invests only in the consumer sector: health and wellness, personal care and beauty, food and beverage, household goods, pet and children's products. It also backs companies that serve consumer brands, such as co-manufacturers, co-packers and e-commerce sellers. Topspin wants to be the first institutional investor in a business and takes either control or a significant minority stake. New platforms should have revenue under $200 million and EBITDA of up to $25 million, and Topspin puts in $10 million to $50 million of equity, more with co-investors.

The firm closed Topspin Consumer Partners III at $328 million in April 2026, above its original hard cap, and says it manages about $830 million. Platforms must be based in the US, but add-ons can be anywhere and have no minimum size. That makes a small brand a natural add-on for a holding such as SportPet, which bought the Mammoth Pet Products dog toy line in 2025, or Three Dog Bakery in dog treats.

Greymont’s take

How Topspin Consumer Partners fits a seller

Topspin is a good match for the founder of a growing consumer brand who has not taken outside money before and wants help with retail distribution, marketing and operations. Because it will take a significant minority stake as well as control, an owner can sometimes keep more of the company than in a typical buyout. Founders often stay on: Carpe's two co-founders kept leading the business after Topspin invested in 2024, and Grid's founder and chief executive is staying to scale the company.

Topspin encourages owners and managers to roll part of their equity into the deal and gives executives equity incentives. It also tends to hold companies for a long time, with Polder, Palmetto Moon and Bear Down Brands owned since 2016 and 2017. An owner should ask how long Topspin plans to stay invested and, if it takes a minority position, how major decisions are shared.

Questions owners ask

How big does a company need to be for Topspin?

For a new platform, revenue under $200 million and EBITDA of up to $25 million, with $10 million to $50 million of Topspin equity. There is no minimum size for add-ons to its existing companies.

Will Topspin take a minority stake?

Yes. It requires either control or a significant minority stake and wants to be the main institutional investor, while leaving day-to-day leadership and decisions with the management team.

Does Topspin have new capital to invest?

Yes. In April 2026 it closed Topspin Consumer Partners III at $328 million, above its original hard cap. Grid, announced in February 2026, was the second investment from that fund.

What kinds of consumer businesses does Topspin own today?

Current holdings include Bear Down Brands (Pure Enrichment and Bentgo), Coop Sleep Goods pillows, Japonesque beauty tools, Mission cooling gear, Carpe antiperspirants, SportPet, Three Dog Bakery dog treats and Recom, an Amazon selling partner for brands.
