What SK Capital Partners buys
SK Capital Partners is a New York private investment firm, founded in 2007, that invests in only three areas: material sciences, such as specialty chemicals, polymers, coatings and engineered materials; specialty ingredients, mostly for food; and life sciences, mostly drug and medical device manufacturing. It has raised more than $9 billion across seven funds. It makes control buyouts, recapitalizations and growth equity investments, and it often buys divisions that large companies are selling, such as Parker Hannifin's composites unit, now Axillon Aerospace, and LISI Group's medical business, now Precera Medical.
It invests from two pools. The Flagship funds, most recently the $2.95 billion Fund VI closed in April 2024, back upper middle market and large companies. The Catalyst funds, including the $800 million Catalyst Fund II closed in 2023, back smaller companies, generally with up to $100 million of initial equity. SK does not publish revenue or EBITDA ranges. A smaller materials or ingredients business is most likely to meet SK through Catalyst or as an add-on to a platform such as GEON, Precera Medical or J&K Ingredients.

Greymont’s take
How SK Capital Partners fits a seller
SK Capital suits owners of chemical, polymer, coatings, packaging, food ingredient and contract manufacturing businesses who want a buyer that understands the technical side of what they make. Its team has spent careers in these industries as operators and owners, and it grows companies through acquisitions as well as operating changes. Founders can stay invested: when SK took control of Brothers International in April 2026, the founder kept a significant stake and stayed on as CEO. Owners of smaller companies should look at the Catalyst team, which bought Spectra Confectionery from its founding family in December 2024.
SK has been an active seller over the past two years, with exits to strategic buyers such as Siegfried, Excelitas and Tradebe, and to other investors such as I Squared Capital and Catchment Capital. An owner should ask whether a deal would come from a Flagship or a Catalyst fund, and how much equity the founder can keep.
Questions owners ask
What does SK Capital Partners invest in?
Only three areas: material sciences, specialty ingredients and life sciences. Its current companies range from coatings maker Canlak and chemical distributor Tilley to fruit ingredient supplier Brothers International and medical device component maker Precera Medical.
Does SK Capital buy smaller or family-owned companies?
Yes, through its Catalyst funds, which focus on lower middle market companies and generally commit up to $100 million of initial equity. In December 2024 Catalyst bought Spectra Confectionery from founders Bill and Maureen Georgas and their family.
Can a founder keep a stake after selling to SK Capital?
Yes. When SK took a controlling stake in Brothers International in April 2026, founder Travis Betters kept significant ownership and stayed on as President and CEO.
Does SK Capital buy environmental or waste businesses?
Waste is not one of its stated focus areas, but it owned Milestone Environmental, a Houston energy and industrial waste disposal company, from October 2023 until it sold the business to I Squared Capital on October 6, 2026.
