What Reverence Capital Partners buys

Reverence Capital Partners is a New York firm, founded in 2013, that invests only in financial services. Its private equity arm targets middle-market companies in five areas: banks and other lenders, insurance, capital markets, asset and wealth management, and financial technology and payments. It will take control or a minority stake that comes with real influence, and it is flexible about how a deal is built. The firm says it manages more than $17 billion across private equity, structured credit and real estate, and its current flagship private equity fund is Fund IV.

Many of its deals are large, such as joining Bain Capital in the Envestnet take-private and the Osaic recapitalization. It also backs founder-led firms that grow by acquisition: it bought a majority of Memphis insurance broker Sunstar in 2024 and agreed in 2026 to invest in accounting firm Eide Bailly. Reverence does not publish revenue or EBITDA minimums. A smaller wealth, insurance or accounting firm is most likely to meet it as an add-on to SEIA, Osaic or Sunstar.

Greymont’s take

How Reverence Capital Partners fits a seller

Reverence suits owners of financial services businesses who want a specialist partner rather than a generalist. Its best fit is a firm that already grows through acquisitions, such as an independent insurance agency, a registered investment adviser or a CPA firm. In the Sunstar deal, the founder stayed on as CEO and the management team rolled a material part of their proceeds into the business. In the Eide Bailly agreement, the current leaders keep running the firm, which moves to a structure that keeps audit work inside a licensed CPA firm.

For a smaller firm, the realistic path is selling to one of its platforms. SEIA presented its 2025 deal for Select Money Management as a succession plan for that firm's advisors and clients. Owners should ask how much equity they can roll over, and how the platform plans to keep advisors and clients after closing.

Questions owners ask

Does Reverence Capital invest in insurance agencies and wealth management firms?

Yes. Insurance and asset and wealth management are two of the five financial services areas it targets. Current holdings include the insurance broker Sunstar Insurance Group and the wealth firms Osaic and SEIA, both of which keep buying smaller advisory firms.

Does Reverence Capital take minority stakes?

It can. Its private equity strategy covers both control deals and minority investments that carry real influence, and it says it stays flexible on structure. In the 2024 Envestnet take-private it invested alongside Bain Capital, which led the deal.

Does Reverence Capital invest in accounting firms?

In June 2026 it agreed to make a significant investment in Eide Bailly, a top 20 accounting and advisory firm with more than $800 million of annual revenue. The deal was expected to close in the third quarter of 2026, with the current leadership team staying in place.
