What MidOcean Partners buys
MidOcean Partners is a New York firm, formed in 2003 when its team bought Deutsche Bank's private equity business, that runs both private equity and credit funds. This profile covers the private equity side, which buys middle market consumer and business services companies in themes it studies closely: the vehicle aftermarket, food and beverage, franchise services, media and information services, professional services, infrastructure services, and training. For a new platform it wants an enterprise value of $100 million to $750 million or more and an equity check of $50 million to $300 million or more, in North America, and it prefers majority control. Its sixth fund closed in 2023 with more than $1.5 billion.
Smaller companies usually meet MidOcean as add-ons. Its add-on criteria, dated Q4 2025, set caps of $10 million to $50 million of EBITDA depending on the platform. FullSpeed Automotive, its quick lube and auto service platform, looks for oil change, repair, car wash and tire businesses with up to $25 million of EBITDA.

Greymont’s take
How MidOcean Partners fits a seller
For owners of quick lube, auto repair, car wash or tire shops, MidOcean matters mainly through FullSpeed Automotive, the Grease Monkey and SpeeDee parent it has owned since 2020, whose add-on criteria reach up to $25 million of EBITDA. Food brands, franchise systems, compliance consultancies and fleet safety businesses can also fit one of its existing platforms. MidOcean builds each theme with outside operating executives, so a seller may see a seasoned industry executive join as board chair, as happened at FullSpeed and GSTV.
The firm has been an active seller in 2026, agreeing to sell Questex, Zonda and SI Solutions, and it used a continuation vehicle to keep Cloyes. An owner who would roll equity into a platform should ask how long MidOcean has held it and what the exit plan is. Owners should also confirm whether an offer is a control purchase or a minority structured equity deal, since the firm offers both.
Questions owners ask
Does MidOcean buy auto service businesses?
Yes, through FullSpeed Automotive, which it acquired in November 2020. FullSpeed has nearly 600 oil change and service centers under brands such as Grease Monkey and SpeeDee, and its add-on criteria cover oil change, general repair, car wash and tire businesses with up to $25 million of EBITDA.
What size companies does MidOcean buy as new platforms?
Its private equity page lists enterprise values of $100 million to $750 million or more and equity investments of $50 million to $300 million or more, in North America, with a preference for majority ownership.
Does MidOcean make minority investments?
Its fund mandate is flexible, though it prefers majority control. In May 2025 it made a non-control preferred equity investment in Emergency Care Partners through its Structured Equity Solutions strategy, which it launched in 2024.
Has MidOcean sold companies recently?
Yes. In 2026 it agreed to sell Questex to funds managed by Apollo, Zonda to CoStar Group and SI Solutions to a Macquarie Asset Management-led group. In June 2025 it sold the managed IT services provider InterVision to NWN.
