What J.C. Flowers & Co. buys

J.C. Flowers & Co. is a New York private equity firm founded in 1998 that invests only in financial services. It reports about $5 billion of assets under management, has invested more than $18 billion counting co-investment, and has raised six flagship funds; its last announced close was J.C. Flowers V, at more than $1.1 billion in August 2022. For banks, insurers and specialty lenders it looks for prices near or below tangible book value. For insurance and business services, wealth management, and capital markets, payments and software it pays a multiple of cash flow and wants recurring revenue and room to consolidate.

About 90% of its investments are in North America and Western Europe, and many are carve-outs from large financial groups. US holdings include Elephant Insurance, bought from Admiral Group at the end of 2025, the Midwest insurance broker Tricor, the wealth manager Insigneo, and Accelerated Wealth Partners, a new RIA buyer it backed with up to $200 million in March 2026. RIA and insurance agency owners would most likely meet the firm through platforms like these.

Greymont’s take

How J.C. Flowers & Co. fits a seller

J.C. Flowers suits owners of financial services businesses such as insurance agencies, RIAs, consumer lenders and specialty insurers. It does not buy companies outside finance. Many of its deals are units that larger groups want to sell, so it is used to regulatory reviews and long closings: the Elephant purchase was announced in April 2025 and closed at the end of that year. When it agreed in June 2026 to lead the purchase of Republic Finance, the Phillips family kept an equity stake and management was set to stay in charge.

Founder-owned firms usually meet the firm through a platform. Accelerated Wealth Partners plans to buy a small number of RIAs and keep their boutique client service, and in Italy J.C. Flowers built a broker roll-up that made seven acquisitions in 2025. An owner should ask what stake the platform wants, how regulators will view the change of control, and how long the firm expects to hold.

Questions owners ask

Does J.C. Flowers invest in US companies?

Yes. Its portfolio lists 14 US investments, and current US holdings include Elephant Insurance, Tricor, Insigneo, iLending and Accelerated Wealth Partners. In June 2026 it also agreed to lead the purchase of Republic Finance, a Texas consumer lender with about 250 branches.

What kinds of companies does J.C. Flowers buy?

Only financial services companies: banks, insurers and reinsurers, specialty lenders, insurance and business services firms, wealth managers, and capital markets, payments and software businesses.

Does J.C. Flowers buy registered investment advisors?

Indirectly. In March 2026 it committed up to $200 million to Accelerated Wealth Partners, a new platform that plans to acquire and grow a select group of RIAs. It also owns the wealth managers Insigneo and Finli.
