What Cotton Creek Capital buys

Cotton Creek Capital is an Austin, Texas private equity firm that buys control of lower middle market companies earning $5 million to $15 million of EBITDA. It invests across the US but leans hardest on its regional relationships in Texas and the Southwest, home to many of its companies. Its current companies fall into three groups: utility and telecom infrastructure services such as power line, pole attachment and fiber work; industrial services and manufacturing, including weld inspection, aircraft repair and pharmaceutical equipment; and packaged baked goods.

The firm calls its money Solution Capital. It looks for owners with a specific need rather than a plain exit: handing a family business to the next generation, taking a first outside investor, a recapitalization led by management, or a large company selling off a division. It now invests from Cotton Creek Capital Partners IV, whose size has not been published; its third fund closed with $215 million in 2019. Smaller businesses can also join its companies as add-ons, as Legacy Electric did with Platinum Power in 2025.

Greymont’s take

How Cotton Creek Capital fits a seller

Cotton Creek fits owners of steady, profitable businesses in the South and Southwest who need a partner for a transition, such as passing on a family company or bringing in a first institutional investor, and who are open to growing through add-ons. It tends to back founders who stay. In the Precision Inspection deal, both co-founders kept running the company and remained significant shareholders, and when Legacy Electric joined Platinum Power, Legacy's founder became CEO of the larger business.

The firm holds for several years before selling. It formed Bobcat Power in October 2022 and sold it to Asplundh in April 2025, and it owned Seatex from 2017 to 2024. Owners should ask how much equity they would keep, what the add-on plan is, and how long Cotton Creek expects to hold the company.

Questions owners ask

What size company does Cotton Creek Capital look for?

Its criteria call for $5 million to $15 million of EBITDA, a history of stable results and good cash flow. It does not publish a revenue range, and it also considers add-on acquisitions for companies it already owns.

What kinds of situations does Cotton Creek invest in?

It looks for an owner with a specific need, such as a generational transfer of a family business, a first round of institutional capital, a recapitalization backed by management, or a larger company selling a non-core division.

Do founders stay involved after Cotton Creek invests?

In its February 2025 investment in Precision Inspection Services, the two co-founders stayed on as CEO and President and kept significant ownership. When Legacy Electric joined Platinum Power in August 2025, Legacy's founder became CEO of the combined company.

Does Cotton Creek invest outside Texas?

Yes. It invests across the US with extra focus on the Southwest. Its current companies are based in Texas, Louisiana, Arkansas, Florida, North Carolina and California.
