What Closed Loop Partners buys
Closed Loop Partners is a New York investment firm built around the circular economy, which means keeping materials in use instead of sending them to landfill. This profile covers only its private equity group, which takes control stakes in profitable, cash-flowing companies and grows them through add-on acquisitions. So far its holdings sit in recycling and waste services: municipal recycling, electronics reuse and IT asset disposition, commercial food waste collection and, since March 2026, scrap metal processing. It says it is also looking at plastics and packaging, the built environment, energy efficiency, textiles and healthcare.
The group invests from the Closed Loop Leadership Fund, which reached its final close in June 2022 with more than $200 million of total assets. It does not publish revenue, EBITDA or check size limits. Its newest platforms, Agri-Cycle and Sutter Metals, were established operators with long-serving leaders, and Sage Sustainable Electronics has bought two smaller companies since 2024. A smaller recycler or waste business is most likely to meet the firm as an add-on to one of those platforms.

Greymont’s take
How Closed Loop Partners fits a seller
This buyer suits owners of recycling, scrap metal, organics and electronics recovery businesses who want a partner that cares about the environmental side of the work as well as the numbers. A sale usually means selling a majority stake and either becoming a new platform that the firm grows through acquisitions, or joining an existing platform such as Sage Sustainable Electronics as an add-on. In the Sutter Metals deal the founder stayed on as CEO and kept a significant share of the equity, and in the Agri-Cycle deal the management team stayed to run the business.
The firm also offers access to more than 50 corporate partners, which can help with customers and end markets. Because the Leadership Fund closed in 2022, an owner should ask which fund the money would come from and how long the firm expects to own the business, and whether it expects the owner to roll equity into the deal.
Questions owners ask
Does Closed Loop Partners buy waste and recycling companies?
Yes. Every company its private equity group lists sits in recycling or waste services, including municipal recycler SMR, food waste collector Agri-Cycle, electronics recovery platform Sage Sustainable Electronics and metals processor Sutter Metals, bought in March 2026.
Is Closed Loop Partners a venture capital firm?
It runs venture and private credit strategies too, but its private equity group is a separate team. That group makes control investments in profitable, cash-flowing companies and builds them into larger platforms through add-on acquisitions.
Does the founder stay involved after Closed Loop invests?
Often, yes. When the group bought a majority of Sutter Metals in March 2026, the founder remained CEO and kept significant equity. In the August 2025 Agri-Cycle deal, the existing management team stayed on to lead the company's expansion.
