What Sumeru Equity Partners buys

Sumeru Equity Partners is a growth capital firm based in San Mateo, California, with a second office in New York City. It invests only in technology: enterprise and vertical software, data and analytics, infrastructure software, education technology and cybersecurity. It looks for companies headquartered in North America or Western Europe with recurring, capital-efficient revenue and products customers rely on every day, and it writes equity checks of $50 million to $250 million. The firm says it has put more than $3 billion into over fifty platform and add-on investments.

Its deals range from growth rounds to control buyouts. In November 2024 it made a $330 million control investment in JobNimbus, software for roofing contractors, and in April 2026 it became the majority owner of K1x, a tax data platform. Its latest fund, Fund IV, closed at its $1.3 billion hard cap in November 2022. With a $50 million minimum check, Sumeru is built for software companies that are already sizable; a smaller software business is more likely to meet it as an add-on to a current holding.

Greymont’s take

How Sumeru Equity Partners fits a seller

Sumeru suits founders and management teams of software companies that are growing well and want a large check plus hands-on help with product, sales and hiring. It is not a fit for services or other non-technology businesses. It can buy control, as it did with JobNimbus and K1x, or lead a growth round where the founder keeps running the company, as with Cents, whose co-founder stayed on as CEO.

Its exits have gone to software buyers and other investors: 3GTMS was sold to Descartes in 2025, and earlier holdings went to buyers such as HCL, RealPage, Flexera and Bridgepoint. An owner should ask whether Sumeru wants a majority stake, which fund the money would come from and how long that fund has left to invest and hold, and what role the founder keeps after closing.

Questions owners ask

How large a check does Sumeru Equity Partners write?

Does Sumeru take majority control of companies?

Does Sumeru invest outside technology?
