What Haywood Lane buys
Haywood Lane is a Dallas investment firm that buys and holds companies with permanent capital, so it is not working toward a set sale date the way a typical fund is. Its money comes mainly from long-term family office capital, including a January 2026 commitment from DGRJ Ventures, the investment arm of the Rees-Jones family office, made through the firm's evergreen holding vehicle. It looks for steady, cash-generating U.S. companies that lead their region, have no heavy reliance on a few customers, and face little technology or regulatory risk.
The firm says it can put $25 million to $100 million or more of equity into a business with at least $5 million of EBITDA. It will take majority control or a structured minority stake, can fund growth or buy out existing owners, and keeps money aside for follow-on acquisitions. It aims to add one to three new platforms a year. Its two current holdings are Wilkerson Crane Rental and Alta Arbor Holdings, a Texas plant grower and wholesale distributor. A smaller company is most likely to meet Haywood Lane as an add-on to one of those platforms, as Newton Nurseries and Circle D Nurseries did.

Greymont’s take
How Haywood Lane fits a seller
Haywood Lane suits an owner who wants a long-term home for the business rather than a buyer planning a resale in a few years. Because its capital has no end date, the firm says its first question to a founder is what the company should look like a decade from now. In the Wilkerson Crane Rental deal, the founding couple kept a significant stake and stayed involved, and Alta Arbor's add-ons have kept their names and leaders, as Newton Nurseries did with its CEO.
The firm has only two platforms so far, and its $5 million EBITDA floor rules out most small companies as a new platform; for them, an add-on to Alta Arbor is the more likely route. Owners should ask whether Haywood Lane would lead the deal or share it, since it co-led Wilkerson with NewMile Capital, and how a later sale of any equity they keep would work without a fund deadline.
Questions owners ask
Does Haywood Lane have to sell its companies after a few years?
No. It invests through Haywood Lane Evergreen Holdings, a permanent capital vehicle funded by family office money with no end date, so it can hold a business without a set exit timeline.
How big does a company need to be for Haywood Lane?
Its published criteria call for a U.S. company with at least $5 million of EBITDA and room for Haywood Lane to invest $25 million to $100 million or more of equity.
Will Haywood Lane take a minority stake?
Yes. The firm says it makes either majority control investments or structured minority investments, using common or preferred equity, and can provide growth capital or buy out existing owners.
What has Haywood Lane bought recently?
In March 2026 it co-led an investment in Wilkerson Crane Rental, a Kansas crane rental company, with NewMile Capital. Its Alta Arbor platform added a Circle D Nurseries site in August 2025 and Landscape Wholesale Distributors in November 2025.
