What Unity Partners buys
Unity Partners is a Dallas private equity firm, with a second office in New York, that buys lower middle market service businesses and grows them into larger platforms through add-on acquisitions. The focus areas it lists include accounting, tax and finance; insurance; legal work; outsourced professional services; pool care; tree, lawn and pest care; and plumbing, HVAC and electrical. It looks for large, fragmented markets with essential, recurring demand where private equity is still early. Current platforms include Prosperity Partners and Meaden & Moore in accounting, Tropolis in insurance brokerage, Yardmaster in commercial landscaping, Byng in apartment turnover and renovation work, Gateway Service Partners in commercial sweeping, Poolie in Texas pool care and Amplēo in fractional CFO, HR and marketing help.
Unity does not publish revenue, EBITDA or check size limits. Each platform gets support from an in-house operating team, called Propel, and a broad employee ownership plan. A smaller company is most likely to meet Unity as an add-on: Prosperity completed nine add-ons under Unity's ownership, and Tropolis bought at least a dozen insurance agencies during 2025.

Greymont’s take
How Unity Partners fits a seller
Unity suits owners of people-based service businesses, such as accounting firms, insurance agencies and commercial landscapers, who want their employees to share in a future sale. Every Unity platform starts an Employee Purpose Plan, and when Unity sold most of its Prosperity stake in July 2026, about $18 million went to Prosperity's staff. Founders and CEOs have stayed on in its deals, including at Byng and at Katsam, now Gateway Service Partners.
Much of Unity's activity is add-ons, so a smaller firm will often join an existing platform such as Tropolis, and its partners may be asked to reinvest, as the Farkouh, Furman & Faccio partners did when they joined Prosperity. Unity held Prosperity for about three and a half years before the majority sale. An owner should ask how the employee plan is funded and shared, and how long Unity expects to hold the platform.
Questions owners ask
Does Unity Partners buy accounting firms?
Yes. Accounting, tax and finance is one of its named focus areas. It built Prosperity Partners through nine add-ons before selling a majority stake to Lightyear Capital in July 2026, and that same month it invested in Cleveland-based Meaden & Moore.
Do employees get equity when Unity invests?
Yes. Each platform Unity backs sets up an Employee Purpose Plan, which gives staff across the company a share of the gains. When it sold most of its Prosperity Partners stake in July 2026, the plan paid out about $18 million across Prosperity's employees.
Will Unity look at a small company?
It does not publish a minimum size, but many of its deals are small add-ons. Tropolis bought at least a dozen insurance agencies during 2025, and Prosperity added firms in Vermont, Virginia and New York the same year.
Does the owner stay on after Unity invests?
In its recent deals, yes. Byng's CEO kept leading the company after the July 2025 deal, Katsam's CEO stayed on and joined the board in 2024, and The Somerset Group's president kept running his team after joining Tropolis.
