What TSG Consumer Partners buys
TSG Consumer Partners, which now brands itself TSG Consumer, has invested only in consumer businesses since 1986 and manages about $14 billion from offices in San Francisco, New York and London. It works in five areas it calls its Power Alley: beauty and personal care, food and beverage, health and wellness, home and auto, and restaurants. That covers service chains as well as product brands, from tire and auto repair shops and express car washes to gyms, veterinary hospitals and home HVAC and plumbing. It looks for proven brands growing at double-digit rates, mostly with $25 million to $150 million of EBITDA.
TSG takes majority or minority stakes and says more than 80% of its companies were led by founders when it invested. Its latest flagship fund, TSG9, closed at $6 billion in January 2023. Owners of smaller service businesses are more likely to meet TSG by selling to one of its chains that buy competitors, such as Super Star Car Wash, which bought Wave Wash in 2022, or Cadogan Tate.

Greymont’s take
How TSG Consumer Partners fits a seller
TSG is a strong fit for founders of fast-growing consumer brands and multi-site consumer service businesses, including auto repair, car wash, fitness and restaurant chains, who want a buyer that knows how to market to consumers. Founders often stay in charge: the co-founders of Pura Vida Miami kept majority ownership in TSG's 2025 minority deal, and the founders of Los Tacos No. 1 kept running the business in 2026.
TSG does not always lead. At Mavis it invested alongside lead buyer BayPine, and at Wrench Group it took a significant minority stake while Leonard Green kept control. Its October 2025 agreement to sell Joe Hudson's Collision Center to Boyd Group shows it will sell auto service platforms to large strategic buyers. Owners should ask whether TSG wants majority or minority ownership and how much the founders would keep.
Questions owners ask
Does TSG Consumer invest in auto service businesses?
Yes. Home and auto is one of its five focus areas. Current holdings include Mavis, a tire and auto repair chain, and Super Star Car Wash, an express car wash operator, and in October 2025 it agreed to sell its stake in Joe Hudson's Collision Center to Boyd Group.
How big does a company need to be for TSG?
TSG says it mainly backs middle market companies with $25 million to $150 million of EBITDA. When it closed TSG9 in 2023, it said the fund would mainly back high-growth consumer companies with roughly $100 million to $1 billion of revenue.
Will TSG take a minority stake?
Yes. TSG invests across the ownership range, from minority partnerships to majority control. In its November 2025 investment in Pura Vida Miami, the founders kept a majority stake and stayed on as leaders.
